The Tongue & Groove - 5.25blog pic2It’s safe to say this trend is here to stay. While the cool, calming tones of gray are a great paint choice, finding hardwood flooring to complement can be a difficult task. Wood is inherently warm. Natural woods contain lots of warm red and brown tones and these can be difficult to pair well with the many different shades of gray. Selecting the wrong tone of flooring can throw your whole room out of balance. For example, if you select a dark floor with a darker shade of gray paint, you risk making the space feel dreary and dark.

Strive for balance. If you’ve chosen a light paint color, don’t be afraid to try something darker on the floor. Remember that just because you’ve chosen a dark color for the floor doesn’t mean you can’t add lighter accents like rugs, furniture and throw pillows. All these elements work together to make the space come together. Whites, bright yellows and greens and reds all look fabulous with gray and are great colors to incorporate in your design.

Another great option to pair with gray paint is to use reclaim wood. Reclaim wood can add warmth to your space without being to overpowering. Because the wood is aged and weathered, the bold rich color has been washed away leaving behind a softer look. You’ll also find some underlying gray tones in reclaimed wood that new lumber doesn’t contain.
