They say what goes around, comes around. We’re finding this to be true when it comes to traditional T&G planking. More and more of our customers are gravitating toward tried and true classics like Knotty Pine and Knotty/Rustic grade cedar. There are a few different theories behind what is driving this trend. Some designers have speculated that the growing popularity of barnwood style tongue and groove has re-opened the door to the traditional knotty woods. Others believe the move was prompted by the declining economy. Knotty woods are typically less costly than their clear counterparts. Still, others believe that the traditional tongue and groove has never gone out of style.

Knotty Pine has always been a staple for us. Customers like its rustic appeal as well as its warmth. To eliminate the natural ambering that occurs with pine, more and more customers are opting for a whitewash, which gives the wood a lighter, airy feel, without compromising the rustic charm. Still undecided, check out these photos courtesy of Houzz for some ideas on incorporating a classic like Knotty Pine in your décor.
