Before installing a hardwood floor, you should be sure to read any instructions or information provided by the manufacturer. If the material does not come with a manufacturer’s recommendation, take the following steps:

Step 1: Ensure that the heating and air conditioning units are in operation for at least five days before the flooring is delivered. The goal is to keep the wood in an environment that mimics what the normal living conditions will be.

Step 2: Once you have verified that the site is at the expected living conditions, have the flooring delivered and check the incoming moisture content.

Step 3: Check the moisture content of the subfloor. The moisture content of the subfloor should coincide with the temperature and relative humidity of the jobsite. Use the chart below as a guide. This reading will give you a good idea of how the conditions in the facility are being maintained and allow you to compare to the expected “in-use” conditions.
